The Snowman film

Adapted from a novel by Jo Nesbø, the best-selling Norwegian crime writer, The Snowman looks about as dark as Michael Fassbender looks serious, which is: very.

Set in Norway with the noir-ish vibe you’d expect, the film is like Frozen – but without the animation, romance, tunes, fluffy family-friendly fun or subtle feminist message. So it’s not like Frozen at all.

Michael Fassbender, fresh off the set of Alien: Covenant, takes on the role of Detective Harry Hole.

After the disappearance of a young woman on the first snow of winter, Hole is back on the hunt for a murderer who might be getting a taste for blood again.

He teams up with a new recruit, played by Rebecca Ferguson – also fresh off the set of a sci-fi horror, Life – to re-open a batch of cold cases that might help them ensnare the serial killer. But can they do it before the next snowfall?

Swelling the ranks along with the leading duo are J. K. Simmons (we’re still reeling from Whiplash) and Charlotte Gainsborough, who recently featured in the star-packed Norman. James D’Arcy from Dunkirk and Toby Jones, last seen in Atomic Blonde, also turn up.
