'The reign of the middle-aged white man is over.' With so much real-life drama having taken place between the end of season five and the return of season six, many eyes will be watching to see how House of Cards gets on with woman at the helm.
The Homecoming, Amazon Prime
Based on a popular podcast, Homecoming is a psychological thriller about a facility that helps traumatised soldiers adjust back to civilian life. Heidi (Julia Roberts) was a caseworker there, and had mysterious reasons for leaving. All 10 episodes are directed by Mr Robot creator Sam Esmail.
Luther series 5, BBC One
Not much is known about this new series of Luther – the tough, rough detective drama starring Idris Elba. We’ve only had the trailer, which is splattered with the words ‘THIS WILL HURT’, and the rumour that psychopath Alice (Ruth Wilson) is returning. Either way, it promises to be gritty, violent, and gloriously dark.

ITV’s latest cop thriller, based on the novels by Adam Creed, is Dark Heart. Penned by Chris Lang (Unforgotten) and Ben Harris (Marcella), Dark Heart follows the young DI Will Wagstaffe, or ‘Staffe’ played by Tom Riley, who remains hellbent on finding the person who killed his parents when he was just 16.
