Gavin & Stacey said their goodbyes in 2010, after the final episode attracted 10.25 million viewers on New Year's Day – remarkable for a little BBC romcom. The show kicked off the career of James Corden, who's since found his fame in America as a much-loved (and loathed) chat-show host. Smithy would be proud.
Gavin (Matt Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page) are back
The Wests and the Shipmans are spending this Christmas in Wales. But despite the arrangement being that the families alternate locations every year, Pam (Alison Steadman) secretly wants to spend the holidays in her native Essex. She finds Gwen's house a bit… lacking. Also, warning bells start ringing as Bryn (Rob Brydon) is in charge of preparing Christmas dinner for 13 people. And he's understandably tense.
Gavin (Matt Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page) are in their tenth year of parenthood, but they continue to find new challenges with their son. Equally, Smithy (James Corden) dedicates as much time as he can to his own son, Neil – seeing him at weekends and every second Wednesday. It's no surprise to find out that Nessa (Ruth Jones) has her own unique form of mothering.
The Christmas Special could give us another duet from Nessa (Ruth Jones) and Bryn (Rob Brydon)
In a joint statement, both Corden and Jones describe their eagerness to return to the series: 'Over the last 10 years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like'.
