Best new theatre: London 2021's shows to catch

With so many revered productions postponed in 2020, much of what's coming to the London stage in 2021 arrives in homage to the lost year. This delay, if anything, adds to the anticipation.

From fantastical adaptations at the Bridge, Wyndhams and Regent's Park, to an all-new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and a revival of 'the greatest play of the century', here are 21 plays (hopefully!) gracing the London stage this year.

Hymn, Almeida Theatre

Hymn, Almeida Theatre

One of early 2021's exciting offerings comes from writer Lolita Chakrabarti (Red Velvet, 2021's Life of Pi) and director Blanche McIntyre (the RSC's Titus Andronicus, Shakespeare's Globe's The Winter's Tale). Called Hymn, the mysterious two-hander concerns itself with two men who meet at a funeral. One knew the deceased, the other did not. But soon, we're told, they'll be 'singing the same tune'.
