It returns due to popular demand after a sellout opening in 2019. Casting for the re-imagined 2020 production is yet to be announced, although rumour has it Jac Yarrow might return as title character Joseph once again. The recent production saw Sheridan Smith (Legally Blonde, Funny Girl) as Narrator and Jason Donovan (Neighbours) as Pharaoh. Donavon wowed the Palladium this summer, 28 years after he starred there as Joseph in the 1990s with a best-selling soundtrack album.
It's safe to say Joseph has established itself firmly as one of the world’s favourite family musicals. Over nearly five decades, the musical has seen hundreds of thousands of performances, from professional productions in the West End and on Broadway to amateur performances in school halls around the world.
All song and no chat, the infamous biblical story follows the rollercoaster adventures of Joseph, the favourite son of Jacob. Sold into slavery by his envious brothers, Joseph befriends Egyptian noble Potiphar but ends up in prison after refusing his wife's advances. In prison, Joseph discovers his remarkable ability to interpret dreams. When the troubled Pharaoh of Egypt hears this, he asks Joseph to shed light on his enigmatic dreams and to resolve the famine that threatens the nation.
The London Palladium welcomes the re-imagined production for a strictly limited 10-week this summer. So go, go, go Joseph, you know what they say!
