Underneath Exmouth Market is a secret basement den dedicated to late-night drinking, opulent cabaret and burlesque dancing. Hester’s Hideout offers an immersive cabaret and cocktail experience where revellers are transported back to the early 1900s. With the lights down low, let the burlesque and live music begin…

Inside, Hester’s Hideout resembles a turn-of-the century speakeasy, once frequented by market traders and dodgy dealers, and the smoking and bubbling cocktails take inspiration from London’s historical past. Top mixologists update vintage recipes to make molecular drinks: we recommend trying the Chinaman’s Night Cap which was once served in London’s opium dens and evokes the aromas of the East.

This Thursday sees the next instalment of Hester's Hideout Thursdays' Jazz Night series. Taking guests on a whimsical journey through the ages, the evening kicks off with a live band playing music from the jazz era. As the night goes on, the tempo gets faster and the dancing gets wilder. DJ Oliver Night takes over with club classics and east London anthems until the early hours.

The hideout is nestled behind an unassuming door marked ‘Trader’s Entrance’: once inside, an unforgettable evening of entertainment awaits you. Just keep it a secret!

Culture Whisper is inviting Gold Whisper members to a night of decadence: Redeem your pair of free tickets for Hester's Hideout Jazz Evening before they go.

  • Berber & Q Shawarma bar

Expanding on their restaurant in Hackney, Berber & Q opened the Shawarma bar in 2016, achieving their goal of serving a delicious range of slow-cooked rotisserie meats to the public. Located in Exmouth Market, this Israeli-inspired eatery has a fantastic selection of mezze, grilled meats and hummus.

  • Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings

This venue features two restaurants, each with their own quirks. The Greenhouse restaurant is worth a visit on the basis of aesthetics alone, with its hanging plants and atmospheric low lighting in the evenings. Don't forget the food, though -- why not go all out and try their Lobster Royale for brunch?

London has many amazing restaurants and the Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings are well worth a visit - keep an eye on Culture Whisper for our news and reviews!

  • Morito, Exmouth Market

Crete-born chef Marianna Leivaditaki’s tapas and mezze restaurant is a fantastic addition to the Hackney culinary scene. Choose from a menu of mouthwatering bits and pieces all inspired by Southern Spanish, North African and Eastern Mediterranean delicacies. With a rustic but bright décor, food isn’t the only treat for Morito’s customers.
