Now you, too, can immerse yourself in Christmas past, present and future and Scrooge invites Londoners into his Parlour for a festive show-turned-dinner-party.
Hartshorn - Hook Productions (the Oliver-winning production company behind the immersive Great Gatsby) have transformed a draughty Shoreditch warehouse space into an ornate Victorian home, with a large table, a taxidermied bird and magical mirror. The whole scene is of cosy festivity (though it’s actually pretty chilly, so wrap up warm).
Dickens’ classic novel is 'lovingly bastardised' by Alexander Wright and condensed into a two man show. Join in parlour games with Jacob Marley, make Scrooge cringe with your cheery carol singing and learn how a sweet young boy grows up to become avaricious and cold. WIth a little trickery and some audience enthusiasm, Scrooge might just learn to love Christmas.
Then comes the main event - a two-course Christmas feast with all the trimmings, cooked up by MasterChef 2013 winner Natalie Coleman. There’s nothing stingy or Scroogeish about the feast - platters groan under piles of golden roast potatoes and crispy pigs in blankets. Save room for the real highlight: a glorious crispy yet gooey clementine pavlova.
Once full of turkey and mulled wine, Scrooge begins to thaw… His hilarious, unihibited spree of Christmas joy is the hilarious highlight of the night. And guests are welcome to stick around in the bar late into the night to get merry.
