Sunday may traditionally be a day of rest, but for the colourful characters of Soho's cabaret scene, it's another night to wow audiences with their dizzying repertoire of talents.

While today, Soho might be better known for its trendy eateries, box office-smashing musicals and world-class theatre, there are still a plethora of intimate venues housed in historic buildings, offering equally delicious evenings of entertainment. Experience the area's original Vaudeville spirit at Soho’s art deco gem, the Phoenix Arts Club, where a programme of after-dark antics is waiting to delight London's night owls.

The team behind the Phoenix Arts Club, who have just announced an extension of their 2019 programme, introduce a different line-up of celebrated chanteuses and dynamic drag queens each week. Past acts having included a glittering string of burlesque royalty such as Ivy Paige and Eliza DeLite, and small screen celebrities including RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Courtney Act and Charlie Hides. Award-winning acts have also graced the stage, with comedian and musician Tim Minchin (composer of Oliver Award-winning Mathilda) and comedian Sara Pascoe (winner of the 2014 Chortle Breakthrough Award) among those who have performed at the venue in the past.

If you're looking to spruce up your Sunday with some last-minute weekend fun, here's where to head before the lights go down.

  • The Barbary

The team behind Soho's Palomar bring exquisite modern Jerusalem feasting and ample atmosphere to Covent Garden . Voted as Time Out's top London restaurant in September 2017, The Barbary is inspired by the food and flavours that span the Atlantic Coast.

  • Parsons

Parsons is a thoroughly old-fashioned spot, with a maroon-tiled facade, a white tiled interior and antique mirrors on which are written their daily changing selection of fresh whole fish which make up most of the mains. We love it.

  • Swift

Soho's most glamorous bar. Upstairs is for quick drinks, lighter spirit based cocktails and champagne in a chic, mirrored bar. Downstairs is TARDIS-like with leather booths, a sexy 1930s elegance and a distinctive buzz. Turn up at weekends for the live pianist.
