Gabriel Faure’s ever-popular Requiem will form the centrepiece of a London concert by the City Choir of Washington when it brings its distinctive sound to the UK for the first time in July.

The 50-strong US choir will perform the work, with its distinctive Pie Jesu solo, at the Temple Church, a fine medieval building rich in musical heritage that lies at the heart of the Inns of Court off Fleet Street.

Alongside the Requiem, the choir will also present Tolstoy’s Creed, a work specially commissioned from major British composer Sir John Tavener. The programme will also feature’s Tavener’s evergreenThe Lamb, The Chelsea Carol by American composer Eric Whitacre and a setting of Psalm 121 by the choir’s conductor Robert Shafer.

The London concert will mark the culmination of the choir’s UK tour which will take it to Gloucester and Ely cathedrals.

The Temple Church concert is on 11 July at 7.30pm. Entrance is free but places must be booked through Eventbrite.
