Director Kwame Kwei-Armah returns to the Donmar with a revival of Ibsen's play about a lighthouse-keeper's daughter

The Lady from the Sea, Donmar Warehouse
After an Olivier nomination and glowing reviews for 2016's One Night in Miami, Kwame Kwei-Armah returns to the Donmar Warehouse to direct Henrik Ibsen's 1888 work, The Lady from the Sea.

Rich with symbolism and sadness, the play follows Ellida, a lighthouse-keeper's daughter trapped in a strained marriage. The return of an estranged ex lover forces her to confront the freedom she has forsaken.

'Writer Elinor Cook has created a beautiful new version of the play and we are thrilled that wonderfully gifted and recently BAFTA-nominated Nikki Amuka-Bird will return to the Donmar' says artistic director Josie Rourke.

Amuka-Bird, who is a familiar face from BBC dramas One Small Island and NW along with extensive stage roles, will lead the cast as Ellida.

Public booking for The Lady from the Sea at the Donmar Warehouse opens on Tuesday 27 June.
