The Langham, one of London's most luxurious hotels, has launched a new bar that celebrates the historic British tavern, with the help of twice-Michelin-starred chef, Michel Roux Jr.

The Wigmore's opulent interiors, designed by the award-winning Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, who are incidentally the creative brains behind Sexy Fish and the RA's Royal Academician's Room, transport you to an old London tavern from the 1800s. Serving cups of gin punch in Pewter cups spritzed with a house soda, alongside hearty but mouth-wateringly delicious British fare, The Wigmore feels simultaneously historic and ultra modern.

Michel Roux Jr will continue his work at Le Gavroche, but will be assisting with the menu here. Bar snacks include crisp ox-tongue potatoes and fat chips, garnished in their signature bloody mary salt, as well as mains – for the more adventurous gourmands amongst you – include devilled lamb’s kidneys on toast and paprika-glazed short rib with bone marrow crumb.

Cups of gin punch are the house speciality, but wine and beer from The Wigmore's chosen partner, Bermondsey's Brew by Numbers, will also be on tap. For G&T aficionados, we challenge you to find a better one in London; The Wigmore's take on the classic straight-sided British G&T will stop you in your tracks.

Reservations are now being taken, so make to sure to find out what all the fuss is about.

  • Roux at The Landau

Luxurious yet laidback dining in a hotel without any of the pomp and ceremony is still a rare find. Roux at The Landau just north of Oxford Circus, within the decidedly grand The Langham, has nailed it. Using French cooking techniques, the talented chefs serve up gloriously simple dishes in an elegant setting that has recently been re-styled by David Collins Studio.
