As well as more than 100 symphonies, Haydn wrote 68 quartets. At London's premier chamber music venue, Wigmore Hall, a distinguished line-up of ensembles is exploring these captivating, jewel-like works.
Witty, inventive, profound, moving and richly textured, the quartets unfold over a series of concerts. Take in one or get the Haydn bug and catch the lot.
Booking is now open for the first of the 2018 concerts which start on 3 Jan with the Schumann Quartet, who play four pieces. Other distinguished quartets playing include the Jerusalem Quartet (12 Feb), the Doric ( 22 Feb, 28 Feb and 26 May), and the fast-rising Heath Quartet – one of the most exciting younger ensembles working today (14 Mar and 16 June).
There are 16 concerts in all; the Castalian Quartet close the season (25 July).
