Painting using predominantly black-and-white pigments has long held a fascination for artists, yet there has never been a major exhibition on the subject.

This is set to change with the National Gallery's upcoming exhibition, Monochrome: Painting in Black and White. Featuring works in black and white by world-celebrated artists including Rembrandt, Picasso and installation artist Olafur Eliasson, this exhibition is set to explore the trajectory of black and white painting from its beginnings in the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and the 21st century.

To coincide with this landmark exhibition, artist Olafur Eliasson, whose light installation Room for one colour features in Monochrome, will discuss his creative process and his exhibited work in a one-off event with exhibition curator Jennifer Sliwka.

Olafur Eliasson has realised numerous major exhibitions and projects around the world. Most impressively, Eliasson represented Denmark at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003, with The blind pavilion, and, later that year, he installed The weather project in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall.

Eliasson has also founded creative design studio Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin, which today employs about ninety people, from craftsmen and specialized technicians, to architects, art historians, web and graphic designers, film-makers and cooks.

We have six pairs of free tickets for members to attend this intimate in conversation event. Book now or regret it later!
