Nicôle Lecky debuts with Superhoe at the Royal Court, a frustrating depiction of the struggles facing millennial artists

Fresh-faced writer/performer Nicôle Lecky (Sense8, Fresh Meat) conveys the
struggles of the younger generation grappling with the future in new play Superhoe in the Royal Court's cosy Jerwood Upstairs Theatre.
If you want to make a name in the world, life can be difficult. But it’s even more difficult if life refuses to start. This frustrating scenario faces 24-year old Sasha Clayton, played by Lecky. Once top-dog at high school with dreams of becoming a singer, she now lives with her parents in a cramped flat near Stratford, with menial employment 'working in fucking Wetherspoons for 8 pounds an hour.' A single dream shines in a life felt to be going nowhere: a ticket to freedom, in the form of her first EP.
Lecky, who describes herself as ‘an actress from the East End’, has appeared on screen in the likes of Skins and Eastenders and honed her writing skills at Soho Theatre Writer's Lab. She uses her Royal Court debut to provide a voice for the new challenges faced by the next generation of creatives.
Jade Lewis, who worked with debbie tucker green on a profoundly affectionate, passionate devotion to someone (-noun) at the Royal Court in 2017, directs this world premiere.
