Pick and Cheese, Seven Dials Market

Pick and Cheese Covent Garden presents a world first: a cheese conveyor belt. For when a cheeseboard just won't cut it

Pick and Cheese, Seven Dials Market
Why eat one cheddar at a time from a static cheeseboard when you could be sitting in front of an endless moving stream of delicious, different cheeses?

British cheese pioneer Matthew Carver is bringing this fromage feast to life in new venture in Covent Garden, following on from the success of his Cheese Truck and Cheese Bar among cheese-keen Londoners. For this latest addition comes in the form of the world's first cheese conveyor belt. Think Yo Sushi, but purely cheese. The bar even adopts Yo Sushi's colour coded plates for different prices system - although here the plates are all handmade ceramic, naturally.

The restaurant offers over 25 different cheeses, which each come with an individual, chef-driven condiment ranging from Hazelnut Brittle to Sherry Cherries. All are locally sourced from UK based farms and cheesemakers in line with Carver’s commitment to supporting small producers. To go with your cheese, there is a selection of British charcuterie as well as plenty of natural organic wines from Les Caves de Pyrene, especially chosen to complement the cheeses.

Guests are welcome to choose their own selection, but Carver and his team have handily produced a variety of suggested tasting flights that can help those customers who can’t quite tell their parmesan from their pecorino to navigate the wide range of cheeses on offer.

For those of us who long for the heavenly melted cheese of Carver’s other venues (and who doesn’t), worry not: there are also a handful of off-belt hot dishes, including those toasties from the Cheese Truck. Intriguingly, there will also be cheese flavoured soft serve ice cream available for pudding. Could be a revelation, could taste as strange as it sounds.

Carver aims to ‘change the perception of what a cheese and wine bar has to be’ for a new generation of cheese aficionados, and this newly mechanised approach certainly seems a lot more fun than your average to fusty wine bar.
