Dimensions, Croatia

Dimensions (and its sister festival Outlook) takes the cake in offering one of the most breathtaking settings of the European music festival scene. Living up to its name, ravers are invited to enter another world and cut shapes to underground electronic music in a 200-year-old fort. They can then spend the day sunbathing on a sandy beaches or cooling off in the Mediterranean. Organisers have announced that 2019 will be their final year at Fort Punta Christo, so this is definitely one to catch while you can.

Primavera Sound, Barcelona

Primavera has been attracting globetrotting festival goers to the Catalan capital for a heady concoction of sun and sounds since 2001. This year they’re bringing serious heavy hitters to stages across Barcelona’s beach with wrecking-ball singer Miley Cyrus, sultry-voiced James Blake, mind-bending performer FKA twigs, Spanish songstress Rosalía, and ultimate queen of cool Solange. For a more spiritual festival experience, head to the remote Bulgarian village of Polkovnik in the verdant Rhodope Mountains. The Boaty Weekender
