Everybody's Talking About Jamie film adaptation

The cast for the upcoming adaptation of the hit musical has been confirmed: Richard E. Grant, Sharon Horgan and more join the 2021 project

Richard E. Grant will star in Everybody's Talking About Jamie
In 2011, the true story of 16-year-old Jamie from Sheffield came to the BBC in documentary Jamie: A Drag Queen at 16. In 2017 this story came to the West End after a run at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre and is now being prepped for the big screen courtesy of Film4 and Warp Films.

The show brimmed with bravery and empowerment and sets our expectations high for the upcoming film. Potential worries have already been tempered, as Richard E. Grant has been confirmed as part of the supporting cast as former drag queen and Jamie's mentor, Hugo/Loco Chanelle.

Grant was last seen in Marielle Heller's Can You Ever Forgive Me?, which earned the actor an Oscar nomination. His role as Jack Hock boasted the performer's sensitivity and flamboyance, and this new role feels like a natural progression.

He'll be starring opposite newcomer Max Harwood as Jamie, as well as Catastrophe's Sharon Horgan as Jamie's teacher Miss Hedge and Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) as Jamie's mother, Margaret.

Fresh movie musicals have been booming since La La Land, with Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman relishing collective nostalgia and reckoning with the price of fame. In the wake of stirring tv show Pose, focusing on ball culture and drag communities in 1980s New York, it does feel like there's a gap in the market for a more contemporary portrait of drag queens on the silver screen.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie will be released in UK cinemas on Friday 26 February
