The Royal Ballet, Obsidian Tear Triple Bill

The works in this triple bill bring together the diverse talents of three of Britain’s best loved choreographers, all of them Royal Ballet Resident Choreographers at one time or another. With performances of the the romantic Marguerite et Armand, primal Obsidian Tear, and light-hearted Elite Syncopations, this is one dance showcase you won't want to miss.

From the House of the Dead is the Czech composer Janáček’s final work and, many believe, his most powerful. Based on Dostoyevsky’s semi-autobiographical novel describing life in a Siberian gulag, Janáček examines compassion born out of shared difficulties in this impactful opera.

Verdi is recognised for translating Shakespeare's original plays into operatic compositions. Verdi considered Macbeth to be ‘one of the greatest creations of man’. The opera he created in response both stands alone and pays homage to the Bard's great tragedy. The production is set to return to Covent Garden on 25 March 2018.

4:48 Psychosis was written by Sarah Kane shortly before her tragic suicide in 1999. Inspired by the unique perspectives of the playwright, composer Phillip Venables penned an operatic interpretation for the Royal Opera at Lyric Hammersmith. Returning after two years, during which time it picked up a host of awards and nominations, 4:48 Psychosis creates an abstract world of words.
