London celebrates 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality
This spring, it's fifty years since homosexuality between men was finally (partially) decriminalised in the UK with the Sexual Offences Act. But, as London's greatest institutions rise up to mark the half-century, we're reminded of the countless hidden histories that are waiting to be told. The British Museum leads the way, with a love story that's nearly 2,000 years old. Click through our gallery to find the best events marking the occasion.
We loved this major retrospective of one of our greatest living artists, which includes tender portraits: "'The Room, Tarzana' - in which Hockney's lover Peter Schlesinger lies flushed and face down on his bed, with no trousers on. The breezeless scene is jettisoned by the boisterous activity we imagine has just occurred. Forty years after it was painted, it still thrills."
