September Lifestyle Edit

By Poppy Cory-Wright on 1/9/2020

We're used to seeing the month of September soar London back into action in a glittering crescendo after summer's gentle lull. And whilst the autumnal gold-rush of London's cultural scene might look a little different this year amidst a global pandemic, there's plenty of fun to be had.

From the new French Creole restaurant set to shake up London's foodie scene to the brand new series to devour during cosy evenings in, here are fourteen things to have on your radar this September

The hot opening...

... a table at Louie, the hottest restaurant opening of the month

Named after Louis Armstrong, this joint venture from Chiltern Firehouse's Guillaume Glipa and the Paris Society brings American chef Slade Rushing – a five-time James Beard award nominee (a barometer of American culinary excellence) – to London. The four-storey townhouse will boast a blend of flavours from New Orleans, Paris and London, all whilst serving up the heady spirit of NOLA (there'll be live brass bands) alongside the sophistication of Paris.

From Kate Moss to The Beatles, this new exhibition at London institution 45 Park Lane captures rare, off-screen photographs of some of the world’s most famous faces. Featuring legendary photographs by Terry O'Neill CBE, Andy Gotts MBE and Douglas Kirkland, their shared passion for capturing intimate moments in the lives of famous music and film stars is beautifully curated in one of the most prestigious hotels in the world.

... with the Burberry face mask

The anticipated Burberry face mask is dropping soon, arriving in two shades of the house vintage check, along with a matching pouch. The British designer brand's foray into protective wear is unsurprising, given its inspired response to the pandemic. In recent months, the brand converted a factory to make PPE, donated to food banks and helped to fund vaccine research. Burberry will donate 20% of the selling price of each mask to support global communities affected by the pandemic.

"I have 85,041 photos and 22,739 videos in my phone. Here are a few of my favourite ones."

From fields of wheat, lavender and sunflowers to Icelandic black sand, seascapes and rows upon rows of Chiquito bags, Simon Porte Jacquemus' Instagram is a visual feast. Indeed, the popularity of his feed has reached such heights that the designer has compiled his posts into a trendy new photobook that's destined to top the coffee tables of London's most fashionable set upon its release this month.

... Small Axe, BBC

John Boyega has teamed up with filmmaker Steve McQueen (Widows, 12 Years A Slave) for a new racial anthology series, set within London’s West Indian community. Starting in the late 60s and concluding in the early 80s, Small Axe tells the stories of those who spoke truth to power. Boyega will play Met Police officer Logan Leroy MBE, who fought to reform the police from within after seeing his father assaulted by two officers.

Cosy up...

... in a sweater vest

The dulling of summer's glow can be dispiriting, but the promise of an autumn spent curled by a fire, or the warm hug of your new signature winter jumper is sweet atonement. The sweater vest is firmly back in the spotlight as this season's staple knit, and we have our eye on this one from Arket.

.... Hydrangeas

September is the month to fill your home with the sumptous romance of the hydrangea - the globe-shaped bloom adorned with dozens of ruffled, velvety petals. We like ours in powder blue and soft pink.

... Anissa Kermiche Candlesticks

Designs by London-born jeweller Anissa Kermiche have long adorned the ears, throats and wrists of the capital's fashion set. They're quirky, at times cheeky, and undeniably assertive. Her foray into ceramics birthed the 'Love Handles Vase', and the 'Jugs Jug', and now these covetable candlesticks. These joyful celebrations of the female form by the ‘it’ ceramicist are the perfect love-forever items to add character to your home.
