A very Fine Line: East London's Sculpture Park

Once something of an industrial no-man's land, the stretch from the Olympic Park down to Millennium Dome is now a kind of sculptural treasure hunt. Dubbed 'The Line', a nod to New York's ever popular High Line, there are 30 artworks along the Greenwich Meridian line, alongside the twists and turns of the River Lea.

Over at Cody Dock by the River Lea you'll find Turner Prize winner Damien Hirst's sinister bronze recreation of a piece of human skin called Sensation (2003): hair, flesh, blood and all. Also look out for sculptor extraordinaire Antony Gormley, Gary Hume and land artist Richard Wilson.

American artist Sterling Ruby sets the mark with a curious rust-red steel work called Consolidator #654321 outside the Siemens Crystal building by Royal Victoria Dock. Martin Creed's huge metal I-beam is also worth a peak.

We also loved Richard Wilson's hollowed-out hull of a ship, A Slice of Reality and Antony Gormley's striking Quantum Cloud where hunks of magnetised nails conceal the artist's naked body. Abigail Fallis leads the way past a huge Amazon warehouse with two curious shopping trolleys into superstar video artist Bill Viola's eerie black and white installations in the eighteenth century mill just below the Olympic Park.

There are some patches that are a little less accessible, but for a sleepy Sunday afternoon walk this is well worth the effort.
