Portrait of the Artist focuses on the star-status of artists like Rubens who became the toast of the Royal Courts around Europe. It's also a curious exploration of how the position of the artist has changed, particularly with patrons, dealers and the public. The 'cult' of the genius artist as we know it is played out with spectacular self-portraits by Rembrandt, Lucian Freud and David Hockney.

Other high points not to miss include Artemisia Gentileschi's self-portrait of the rare female master working in her studio. There's also a remarkable likeness of Leonardo da Vinci by his student Francesco Melzi.
