It's the season of Pop Art in the big smoke with the Tate Modern's major World Goes Pop spectacle. Now Flowers are jumping on the bandwagon at their London gallery with a display of Derek Boshier.
While you might not know Boshier's name - his classmates at the Royal College, including David Hockney and Allen Jones, were fellow stars of the Pop Art scene in Britain.
Pop Art in Britain
Challenging mass consumer culture, Boshier broke with traditional painting and instead looked at the connection between life and art, and the breakdown between high and low culture. If you're a fan of Richard Hamilton, you'll enjoy Boshier's critical language of splicing contemporary media. In recent years Boshier has also followed Hockney's lead with a series of iPad works with a familiar hybrid of daily life and fine art themes.
Derek Boshier exhibition
In this London show you'll find assemblages, collages, drawings and prints from the 1970s when Boshier was at his most powerful. It was also during this period that he collaborated with pop sensations like The Clash and David Bowie on their album graphics.
