Christian Dior exhibition: The Dior Collection, Proud Central, London

Coinciding with the major V&A Christian Dior exhibition is a more intimate photography exhibition at Proud Central London exploring Dior's revolutionary beginnings

‘Marc Bohan on a shoot for Vogue’, 1974, Norman Parkinson
Dubbed the author of 'The New Look' and the 'curving, opulent day silhouette' by Harper's Bazaar in 1947, Christian Dior is eternalised in popular imagination as one of the most influential couturiers of the twentieth century.

Dior's emphasis on luscious fabrics, voluptuous silhouettes and elegant femininity in the post-war years revitalised a waning interest in Haute Couture; his fresh designs and savvy tailoring triggered the widespread embrace of pret-a-porter fashion in mid twentieth-century Paris. With the birth of the Dior House in 1946 came a revolutionary new era in fashion whose legacy and influence continues to impact the fashion industry today.
