The CW top ten: autumn activities in London this weekend

With the seasons in flux, we've suggested a series of things to do in London this weekend to celebrate the end of autumn and the colourful harvest season.

From exhibitions that extol the beauty of the English countryside to rustic and seasonally inspired menus, make the most of the fruits of the harvest this weekend. 

1. OCTOBER PLENTY AND APPLE DAY, Bankside, Sunday, 12pm, Free
Join in the celebrations outside Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, with a harvest festival brought to life in a traditional procession featuring Morris dancers, the ‘Green Man’, and a medley of autumnal figures. Then head over to Borough Market for Apple Day, as revelers are treated to tasty fruit and organic cider as well as performance, music and storytelling - one of the most festive themed events London has to offer this month. 

2. CONSTABLE: THE MAKING OF A MASTER, V&A, South Kensington, £9/14.
Enjoy one of Britain’s best landscape painters at this stunning exhibition of John Constable's work at the V&A. Explore 'Britain's best-loved artist' as you've never seen him before. 
 
3. TOM’S KITCHEN: CONSTABLE INSPIRED MENU. Sloane Square, £29-33.
To indulge in seasonal delights, head to Tom’s kitchen for a rustic menu inspired by the exhibition. The chefs use local and seasonal ingredients that will leave you feeling festive.

4. CHELSEA PHYSIC GARDENS, Friday & Sunday, 11-6, £6.60-9.90.
At the arrival of autumn raked leaves turn the Chelsea physic gardens into a kaleidoscope of colour. Whilst the deciduous trees lose their leaves, head to the Garden of Useful Plants to see the thriving conifers.

5. LATE TURNER: PAINTING SET FREE, Tate Britain, £16.50
Turner’s much-loved watercolours are brought together in an exhibition of the Tate. His golden browns and russet reds reflect the monumentality and richness of the autumn.

6. JIMMY GARCIA’S WINTER POP-UP, The Lodge, Balham, £15+
As autumn turns to winter, The Lodge will be a cosy recluse for chilly Londoners seeking some comfort food. Enjoy artisan cheese fondues, warming cocktails and slow-cooked Sunday roasts. And to start the day, the Huntsman Breakfast offers you a tasty plate of seasonal delicacies.

7. THE TALE OF PRINCESS KAGUYA various cinemas.
Enjoy another tale of natural transformation from legendary Japanese producers Studio Ghibli, with their magical new film, telling of an old woodcutter discovers a girl hidden away inside a bamboo shoot.

8. ROAST ON THE RYE, Bussey Building, £10-15
For a relaxing afternoon head over to Peckham's famous Bussey Building and delight in a delicious and seasonal Sunday roast. Enjoy 21 day aged beef, lemon thyme infused chicken and nut roast, and having indulged in all the yorkshire puddings you can manage, take the opportunity to explore the culturally rich venue. 

9. YAYOI KUSAMA’S PUMPKINS, Victoria Miro Gallery, Free
At this visually striking exhibition from Yayoi Kusama at the Victoria Miro Gallery in Old Street the pumpkin – the fruit of autumn – comes into its own. These kaleidoscopic bronze sculptures have a monumentality that is truly mesmerising.

10. VEGAN RESIDENCY AT THE MONTAGO, Bond Street, £20+
Delight in the fruits (and vegetables) of the harvest with this showcase of vegan culinary sophistication from LA chef Ali Parvinjah's new residency at The Churchill.
