Justin Audibert’s child-friendly production of The Winter’s Tale comes to the National Theatre

The Winter’s Tale, National Theatre
Shakespeare's late comedy of love, loss and reconciliation is re-imagined for children in a new family-friendly production.

Up and coming young director Justin Audibert leads condensed production of The Winter's Tale, which opens returns to the Dorfman Theatre for February half term 2019 after impressing last year.
Though it ends with the wedding and jig of a typical comedy, the play touches on tragedy before the final relief at the end. In a fit of hot-headed jealousy, King Leontes imprisons his wife and demands his his baby daughter be abandoned in a forest. The story takes us through pastoral romance, a 16 year shift forward in time, and the infamous stage direction 'exit pursued by a bear' before eventually reuniting the lost daughter with her contrite father.

In this accessible production, Shakespeare's text is distilled to engage young audiences and to introduce a new generation to the magic of theatre.

Recommended for ages 8 - 12.
