There's no escaping the superhero buzz. From Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to Logan, radically powered men who may or may not be wearing latex are here to stay, for now.

Chronicling the struggles of the citizens of Tromaville, New Jersey, The Toxic Avenger is a rock'n'roll musical based on the culty 1984 film of the same name. Melvin Ferd the Third is an aspiring environmental scientist determined to clean up the town's toxic waste problem, and is tossed into the aforementioned waste by corrupt politicians.

Thus Melvin becomes the Toxic Avenger, the non-mainstream superhero we've all been waiting for. He's on a mission to clean up his town, get the girl and rock out to music written by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan (original founding member of and keyboardist/vocalist for Bon Jovi).

Fans of superhero musicals have the chance to see The Toxic Avenger, following its premiere at Southwark Playhouse, as it transfers to Leicester Square's Arts Theatre for a limited season.
