The Shark is Broken, Ambassadors Theatre

Edinburgh Fringe smash hit play about the making of blockbuster movie Jaws is set to make a big splash on the West End

The Shark is Broken West End transfer
The surprise hit of 2019's Edinburgh Fringe Festival brings Hollywood history, audacious comedy and an unreliable mechanical shark to the West End. The Shark is Broken comes to the Ambassadors Theatre with a tide of five-star reviews and the buzz of a sellout Fringe premiere.

It takes audiences behind the scenes of 1975 film Jaws, where actors Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss are cooped up on a boat in the middle of the ocean, at the mercy of movie producers, bad weather and a glitchy fake shark called Bruce.

Written by Joseph Nixon and Ian Shaw (son of Jaws actor, Robert Shaw), The Shark is Broken draws on Shaw senior's diaries from filming, giving insights into the behind-the-camera drama. We see the two actors share their neuroses and turn to the bottle to make time pass quicker as frustration with filming gives way to camaraderie.

Reviewers of the original Fringe production enthused about a 'beautifully crafted piece of theatre' with 'immaculate performances' and 'a sublime script', so The Shark is Broken promises to be a treat on the West End.
