The Great Realignment: Britain’s Political Identity Crisis, Emmanuel Centre

Untangle the political confusion and chaos of the nation in a talk with those at the heart of politics today

The Great Realignment: Britain’s Political Identity Crisis, Emmanuel Centre
From dramatic shifts in opinion, to the inability of the polls to predict voters' behaviour in any election, Britain is in an era of political transformation. Nobody appears to know where to turn, and many have been left feeling distant from the parties they previously supported.

On 13 September, the Emmanuel Centre will host a discussion between a panel of politicians and political thinkers that will consider how the meanings of 'left' and 'right' are changing, and where those changes might lead us in the post-Brexit age.

The panel will include, amongst others, Ken Clarke, Father of the House of Commons and one of the most prominent Conservative voices, and Hilary Benn, the Chair of the Brexit Select Committee and Labour MP who will play a key role in holding the government to account for Brexit. From outside of the parties themselves, guests include the deputy editor at the New Statesman, Helen Lewis, and a number of authors and academics with interests in European political thought.
