The Secret Garden, Ambassadors Theatre

Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's story is brought to life by a cast of young performers this summer holiday, in the heart of London's West End

The Secret Garden at the Ambassadors Theatre
The classic children's novel, The Secret Garden is being brought to life by a cast of children at London West End's Ambassadors Theatre this summer holiday. With singing, dancing and beautifully crafted sets, this has all the ingredients to be a summer treat for all kids (and adults, too).

The well-loved story of young Mary Lennox and the secret garden has been known and loved since its initial publication in 1911. This is the tale of an 11-year old girl who is moved to Yorkshire, England after disaster strikes in her home town in India, leaving her orphaned and lonely. Lonely, that is, until she discovers a secret garden in her new residence, Uncle Archibald Craven's house.

The story follows the young girl's journey towards love and kindness as she finds refuge in this magical, hidden area of her new home. This is a poignant story reflecting a child's need to grow and find beauty in life, even when it is not easily visible.

Written by the Pulitzer prize-winning playwright, Marsha Norman, with music composed by Lucy Simon, this modern theatre adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel has certainly been brought up to date for the stage. Compressed down into a manageable 70 minutes, this rendition will be sure to captivate its audience this summer.

Crafted by P2P Productions - the company who brought Annie Junior to London last year - this new adaptation of the classic is full of talent. The cast is made up of 300 bright, talented young performers, who will take part in the production on rotation throughout the season. The talented cast will work alongside big industry names such as Director, Rupert Hands and award-winning designer, Lizzie Leech.

With up to three performances per day, and one every Saturday morning there's plenty of time to see this production over the summer holidays. We're hoping for up-beat songs and beautiful sets to really bring the story to life.
