Just like ice skating, the Museum of Architecture's Gingerbread City is an annual Christmas tradition we eagerly look forward to. After all, it's an exhibition that's as much an exercise in architecture as it is in edible appeal.

This year, it's easier than ever to follow your family ice skating session with a tour of the exhibition, which sees engineers, architects and landscape architects creating entire cityscapes out of gingerbread, icing and sweets - the exhibition will be at Somerset House and is an inspiring way for children to see designers and architects playing with ideas surrounding innovation and sustainability.

Entering its fourth year, the 100+ architects, designers and engineers participating in the project are not only tasked with baking and building; they need to adhere to a theme. This year's is Transport and the likes of Foster + Partners, PDP London, PLP Architecture, Turner Works, Atkins Global (last year's winner), Hildrey Studio and HKS are all taking part.

Alongside the exhibition, there are gingerbread-house building workshops that families can also book onto at various dates and times throughout the day (there are adult workshops, too). Click here to book - workshops are £42 for one adult and one child, including the exhibition ticket (£7 for under-12s, £9 for adults and free for under-threes).

Now, we haven't confirmed this, but we absolutely believe you should be allowed to taste-test the building materials...
