Sardine Restaurant, Old Street

This new Old Street Italian restaurant, offering a very Mediterranean diet, is a collaboration between chef Alex Jackson and his mentor Stevie Parle (Dock Kitchen)

Sardine
Former Dock Kitchen head chef Alex Jackson is heading to Old Street to open his first solo project, although his old boss Stevie Parle will be involved in a mentoring capacity. Expectations are therefore very high, especially after their previous highly acclaimed collaboration in Dalston, Rotorino.

He'll be serving a range of Sardinian cuisine (hence the name) including roast quail with fennel and anchovy butter, deep-fried brains and sweetbreads and the delicious-sounding 'lamb à la ficelle', which is a whole leg of lamb tied on string, and then slowly cooked over an open fire. For pedants asking 'where are the sardines', they're on the menu too - stuffed and grilled.

Located near the trendy Parasol art gallery in the increasingly hip Old Street, this promises to offer some of the capital's most innovative and exciting food, influenced by Jackson's culinary expeditions in the Languedoc and Provence regions.

Sardine will open on 15 Micawber Street, London N1 in May. Find out more at @sardinelondon
