The concept behind Searcy's new restaurant, Urban Coterie might sound irritatingly corporate for some tastes: seasonal fine dining, in the heart of Shoreditch, overlooking the London skyline. We're pleased to tell you the team at Searcy's have pulled it off.

The emphasis at Urban Coterie is on British produce and seasonality, with a monthly changing menu led by Head Chef Martin Zahumensky. With stunning view from the 17th floor of the M by Montcalme hotel, Urban Coterie takes inspiration from the building’s architecture, with sleek contemporary interior design and relaxing surrounds.

The new restaurant is ideal for quiet dinners or an informal business lunches. Diners are presented with a large selection of snacks to start with, which range from succulent potato doughnuts sprinkled with parmesan to savoury pigs head with ‘ndjua’ mayonnaise: rich, hearty flavours that reflect the menu's autumnal impulse.

Next up on the menu we'd urge you to try starters of roast scallop and dumpling. Fried in fresh garlic, the scallops are served with a nutty pistachio sauce that perfectly complements their delicate flavour. For a seafood-free alternative, diners can try the clarence court egg on dorset black garlic and trompette mushrooms, bursting with flavour.

The restaurant’s pièces de resistance, though, are its mains. Offerings of grilled piece of beef served with cep mushrooms and jerusalem artichoke are a favourite, cooked to simmering perfection. Urban Coterie's wine selection is just as impressive as the food, and includes a range of biodynamic and organic wines for the conscientious – or simply curious – clientele.

To round off the menu comes a warm chocolate mousse, served with toasted rice and a delectable scoop of pine ice cream, which satisfies anyone’s sweet tooth and is best enjoyed with a coffee.

All of the dishes are beautifully curated and boosting with flavour. Aside from the delicious food, though, Urban Coterie really comes into its own with its impeccable service. If you’re in the Old Street area and hankering for affordable fine dining, Urban Coterie is definitely worth a visit.
