Menswear trends: AW18

From the shade to be seen in and the print of the moment, to the outdoorsy sport invading urban pavements...

Menswear trends: Autumn Winter 2018
Not all trends are created equal. With images of Kanye's laughlably ill-fitting velcro sliders splashed lovingly across menswear-blogs and an emergence of unapologetic hysteria for firemen's jackets currently haunting menswear, staying sartorially admirable can seem a daunting (and, frankly, undesirable) task this AW18.

Luckily, there's an antidote of accessible and wearable trends to choose from, too. From the shades to be seen in to the print of the moment, see the crucial AW18 menswear trends below.
PLAID, CHECK, TARTAN AND MORE...

Checks, tartan, houndstooth and more may seem like safe bets when the colder months creep in, but this season they've gone bold, bright, and all-over. From the renaissance of skater-approved checkered Vans, to Thom Browne's rainbow brights, heritage prints are going haute couture. Dig yours out.

HAPPY HIKER

Basketball, tennis, athletics and other sports have all had their way with fashion trends in times past. Now, hiking-wear is being thrown in front of fashion's lens. From the achingly covetable collaboration between Swedish outerwear brand Stuttterheim and London cool kids Band of Outsiders, to thick, hardy hiking boots, it's time to hit the streets like you're heading to the Hebrides.

SUEDE, LEATHER AND SHEARLING

Whether Matrix trenches or aviator shearling, opt for both sleek and worn-out hides for an effortless statement and homage to autumn's warmest trend.

VELVET

While there were plenty of jewel-toned and embellished velvet numbers on AW18s runways – notably Lou Dalton's – Velvet doesn't have to translate to the painfully suave. Rough it up with courduroy in earthy, autumnal hues, or opt for velvet accents like A.P.C's baseball caps (which are back, by the way) or a skinny velvet tie.
