Loewe x William de Morgan capsule collection

Loewe's new capsule collection pays homage to British artist William De Morgan with marvellous monsters and fantastical arabesques

Loewe's William De Morgan-inspired capsule collection
Luxury Spanish fashion house Loewe honours the British ceramicist William De Morgan in its latest capsule collection. A key proponent of the Arts and Crafts movement, De Morgan was best known for his fantastical tile designs which featured elaborate floral and animal motifs.

De Morgan's ornate visual language has now been translated into a fashion collection of clothing, accessories and charms for both men and women. Peacock feathers, birds, rabbits and dodos adorn the tapestry-like surfaces of coats, bags, trousers and skirts. The artist's vivid colour palette has also been imported into the collection with many items decorated with cerulean and crimson threads.

There's also a sense of the magical to the collection which has been inspired by De Morgan's use of monsters. Certain items, such as a horned beanie, refashion the wearer into one of De Morgan's creatures – perfect if you're looking to introduce a bit of wonder into your winter wardrobe.

Loewe continuously reaffirms its ongoing celebration of craft techniques with its annual Craft Prize. This year, the luxury label has given special attention to weaving by hosting specialist weaving demonstrations during London Craft Week and Milan Design Week.

Creative director Jonathan Anderson has been a vocal admirer of craft and sees this homage to one of his Arts and Crafts heroes 'a very natural process' for both him and the brand.

The LOEWE De Morgan collection is available online and in store from 14 November 2019
