People's Concert, Trafalgar Square
Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra perform Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and more in a free open-air concert

The music of Dvorak, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky will fill Trafalgar Square on 1 July when the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Simon Rattle give a free, dance-themed concert.
And all you have to do is turn up: there is no need to book, but music-lovers are advised to get to Trafalgar Square in good time. Picnics are encouraged (but no glass or furniture).
While the audience in the square will number up to 10,000 people, the concert will also be live streamed on YouTube.
Sir Simon will conduct 100 musicians from the LSO, alongside 50 young musicians from the LSO On Track programme in East London and musicians from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
'Inside or outside the walls of a concert hall, the experience of great music is for everyone,' said Sir Simon, launching the event.
The programme includes music from Dvořák’s infectiously rhythmic Slavonic Dances, Tchaikovsky’s enchanted ballet The Nutcracker, Stravinsky’s ethereal ballet suite from The Firebird and a world premiere, Sky Dances, by Kate Whitley. Kate is not only a composer, but also the founder of Peckham Car Park’s Multi-Story Orchestra, which has done so much to rethink how and where classical music is played.
The People's Concert promises to be one of the happiest music events of the year. Put it in the diary now!
