Steven Spielberg's 1977 UFO film Close Encounters of the Third Kind arrives at the Royal Albert Hall for a screening accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and English Chamber Choir.

Conducted by Ernst Van Tiel – the conductor also bringing both Star Trek films before a live orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall for the In Concert series – this Oscar-winning score compliments an extraordinary sci fi story about a group who attempt to contact an alien species.



In total the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and continues to be one of the most outstanding feathers in Steven Spielberg's (very fluffy) cap. Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) spots what appears to be a UFO and receives burns from the scorching lights of the unidentified aircraft. Refusing to accept the official explanation for what he saw, and what happened to him, Roy goes on the hunt to find the truth...
