With a very small live audience, carefully spaced around the auditorium, tickets to the general public are available on a returns basis only. Click here to go on the mailing list.
But everyone can hear the opera: it is to be broadcast by BBC Radio 3 at 6:30PM on Saturday 26 September.
The mezzo-soprano Katherine Broderick sings Leonore, who talks her way into the prison where her political dissident husband is held. She assumes the name Fidelio – and is trusted by the jailor (Joshua Bloom). Taking advantage of this, she reaches her beloved Florestan, sung by tenor Toby Spence. A happy reunion is on the cards, but they are not out of danger yet...
Douglas Boyd conducts members of the Philharmonia Orchestra and Garsington Opera Chorus in Peter Mumford's semi-staged realisation of Beethoven's masterwork.
Small household groups will be allowed in the auditorium, further protected by screens especially designed for live performance, in a pioneering venture for Garsington.
Fidelio is performed live on 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 September. Click here to join the mailing list for returns. The broadcast performance is at 6:30PM on Saturday 26 September on BBC Radio 3 and then on demand for one month
