ALMA Deli London is the kid activity space of every parent's dreams
ALMA Deli is Belgravia's one-stop spot for kid-friendly activities and healthy eating, with plant-based cooking, crystal and science labs, yoga, singing bowls and much more.
Just look at family member's clubs like Maggie & Rose, which opened its newest outpost in Islington recently, or coworking spaces that combine an office environment with a crèche. These are destinations you want to spend an afternoon or even a day in, eating, relaxing, learning, enjoying...
ALMA Deli in Belgravia is just that place: you can chill out, eat, pick up a new skill or two and go home with the most delicious plant-based meal for dinner.
Founded by Priyanka Lugani, the concept behind ALMA is simple: it's about creating "a collective consciousness shift. There's no right or wrong, no good or bad. We’re beyond it and we’re here to offer an alternative."
The space is designed to help kids reconnect with their surroundings and with nature - and turn away from those screens - a move Priyanka sees as "coming back to ourselves and our natural state which is joyful, creative and kind."
It's also unlike anything you've probably experienced with the kids so far, even in London: ALMA Deli seeks to translate this consciousness into every aspect of the space, which includes the on-site organic plant-based deli, an apothecary, kids' and adult creative classes, an outside garden area and a lab, where cutting-edge food scientists run tests on everything from allergies to autism, using science-backed evidence as well as Eastern concepts like Ayurveda, Chinese medicine and Tibetan philosophy.
Plant-based cooking for kids and adults, cafe and food delivery services
Food is at the core of the ALMA ethos (80% of your immunity is in your intestine, after all), with glorious dishes and chakra boxes that are plant-based, organic, seasonal and locally sourced (they're also dairy-free, nut-free, meat-free and gluten-free). Since we eat as much with our eyes as we do with our mouths, the dishes deliver both in terms of visual impact as well as health benefits and taste.
You'll find adult cooking classes and supper clubs and kids' plant-based cooking workshops, where kids explore a palate of flavours (salty, sweet, bitter) and create a breakfast, main course and pudding.
Kids learn to enjoy plant-based dining by cooking with the colours of the rainbow, meeting superhero veg (aka Mr Good Fat, an avocado) and discovering that seeds lead to plants which turn into veg (handily, there's an outdoor garden space on-site, where classes are held in fair weather). It's a co-teaching ethos, where parents keen to learn can do so alongside their kids.
There's a weaning class for babies, while those who are obsessed with the food offerings at ALMA (assuming they're based in central London) can also enjoy convenient, plant-based ALMA chakra boxes or baby food delivery straight to their doors.
ALMA is also an old-school apothecary of sorts: you'll find elixirs made with healing herbs and concoctions to support the balance of the body and cure ailments like headaches.
Kids' creative and movement classes
While food is first and foremost at ALMA, the space also offers a variety of kids' classes - ones you won't find at the local soft play centre. Suitable for kids 18 months and up (children 4+ can be dropped off), your child can try out a singing bowls session (that's a gong bath for tots), musical art (where kids paint as they move), dance and kids' yoga (which boys refer to as the "spiritual warrior class"), which includes gratitude exercises and poses, and is held in the yoga barn.
Science buffs aged 4-13 can have a science class like no other: an introduction to the molecular structure of crystals and how to use them (yes, we also wish this class was available to grown-ups).
There are pregnancy-specific yoga, food lab and listening lab classes for mums-to-be.
People can sign up by class or by term, or try a range of different classes (kids, adult, both if you like) with a monthly pass or term pass, which starts at £230 for 8 classes (or £720 for 30).
Happy consciousness-building with the kids.
