Shoe trends: AW19

By Poppy Cory-Wright on 16/8/2019

From glittering cocktail heels to soft fuzz and punk leather, get ahead of the curb with our conclusive guide to the major shoe trends AW19 will kick to the fore.

Cowboy Boots

Cowboy Boots

Giddy up, cowboy. Western boots, top-stiched indigo denim, neckerchiefs and studs have all been riding high since last year, and their reign continues into late 2019. Ganni leads the way.

Chunky combat boots

Heavyweight boots

Give 'em hell with a chunky, heavyweight boot. Prada gave us thick, punk platforms, R13's Doc Martens gave us combat realness and hardcore, rubber-soles stomped down the runway at Alexander McQueen in true British anarchy.

Shearling

Shearling

Fuzz, fur and shearling will keep cold toes warm this autumn. Courreges showcased white fuzzy boots, Chanel gave us Alpine-chic with fur-covered snow boots, and Eckhaus Latta's collaboration with UGG is the lavish, creamy stuff of winter dreams.

Mary-Janes

Mary-Janes

The antidote to AW19's grit and grunge arrives with its appetite for the decidedly elegant Mary Jane. Chanel, Miu Miu, Dior and beyond are endorsing the style, which arrives in all types of fabrics, hues, heights and prints. We're giving the sartorial thumbs up to Dolce & Gabbana's pistachio style.

Smart loafers

Whether patented and buckled or pointy and ponyskin, a pair of smart loafers will add a dose of seasoned sophistication to your look.

Peep-toe boots

Peep-toe boots

Victoria Beckham sent models sashaying down the runway in lipstick red, shocking blue and animal-print peep-toe boots for her AW19 show, and has been spotted in the style countless times since. Tom Ford's satin, seventies-style peep-toe boots of the season are further fuel to set the trend steaming across the street style set.

Geometric heel stems

Flared heel stems

Geometric, flared heel stems (à la fashion's latest darling Amina Muaddi's slingback mules) are the order of the day when it comes to party dressing in 2019.

Snakeskin

Croc 'n Snakeskin

Say it with a hiss with this season's favourite print - croc and snakeskin. Max Mara saturated their tweed and beige with technicolor croc knee-highs, bound to trickle down into the highstreet and onto your Instagram feed.

From Prada's neon to Christopher Kane's bizarre ball-soles, expect to see comfort-seekers padding into the party in jazzy sneakers come autumn.
