This free midsummer concert is borne out of a partnership between BMW and the LSO, and is a curtain-raiser to an incredible summer of live music in London, with the BBC Proms at its heart.
The dance-inspired programme features music by Dvořák, Poulenc and Ravel. The highlight of BMW Classics 2019 will be the world premiere of a specially commissioned work by Bushra El-Turk, bringing together LSO musicians with 55 young musicians from East London who are in the LSO On Track programme, and 20 students from te Guildhall School of Music & Drama students.
Free music for all from the London Symphony Orchestra in Trafalgar Square
On the programme are Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, Ravel’s La Valse, Poulenc’s ballet music Suite Les Biches, and the world premiere of El-Turk's Tuqus. And a rousing encore is pretty much on the cards. Can anything stop the audience getting to their feet to dance to that?
The London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle is at the top of its game, with exciting programmes, often at the Barbican, and imaginative ways of getting people into classical music, such as theHalf Six Fix – one-hour concerts, after work, or before dinner, packed with music and interesting background.
The LSO Midsummer Concert promises to be a fantastic occasion, but get there good and early to be sure of a place. Oh, and the organisers say, no glass please...
