13 August: The week's five best BBC Proms
Grieg, Tchaikovsky, jazzy Gershwin and Chopin – and the best young musicians in Europe
Inspirational conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim returns to the Proms with his remarkable West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, made up of both Palestinian and Israeli players. The pioneering orchestra will accompany soloist Lisa Batiashvili in Brahms's beautifully lyrical Violin Concerto in D Major before tackling the London premiere of David Robert Coleman's Looking for Palestine. The supercharged evening closes with Scriabin's mighty, erotic Poem of Ecstasy. It promises to be an exceptional concert.
