Royal Opera House Autumn Opera and Ballet

Exciting new productions and some old stalwarts make up a varied Autumn of opera and dance at the Royal Opera House. With booking opening at 9am on 25 July, here are the season's highlights in chronological order.

Die Walküre, Royal Opera House

If you are already an out-and-out Wagner nut, you will be plunging into the entire 16-hour-plus Ring cycle at the Royal Opera House this autumn. But if you would just like to sample some of this mammoth undertaking, here is the perfect solution. Die Walküre is the second of the four gigantic operas in the Ring cycle and includes one of the most loved pieces in all music: the Ride of the Valkyries.

It is hardly surprising, then, that MacMillan found himself intrigued by the dangerous desires, family secrets and political twists buried in the true events surrounding the deaths of Crown Prince Rudolf and his teenaged mistress in January 1889.
