Works on Paper Fair, London

The specialist fair that celebrates works on paper returns to Royal Geographical Society this February

And sold for $179 million! Pablo Picasso's Women of Algiers (Version O), set an auction record in 2015 for the most expensive painting ever sold at auction. This record was monumentally surpassed in November last year by Leonardo da Vinci's long-lost Salvator Mundi which sold for a cool $450 million.

But for most, taking home a Picasso, a Matisse or da Vinci, for that matter, is nothing more than a fanciful daydream. Prints, works on paper, and watercolours, however, open up a myriad of investment possibilities. Collecting works on paper by coveted artists is the affordable alternative to splashing unthinkable amounts of cash on their final works in oil.

The Works on Paper Fair, opening its doors at London's Royal Geographical Society this February, brings together a diverse selection of works on paper by early, modern and contemporary artists. From vibrant watercolours and original etchings, to posters and photographs, the 2018 fair boasts specialist exhibitors and works on paper dealers from around the world.

Last year's fair saw sales of original prints by Matisse, David Hockney, and Jacob Epstein. This year, we look forward to seeing a selection of Hokusai prints and authentic watercolour landscapes by British artists, as well as the fair’s mélange of early twentieth-century drawings, Modern British art and 20th Century posters.

First-time buyers have no fear: there will be knowledgeable art dealers on hand to offer advice as you browse the stalls. In addition to the pieces for sale, the fair offers a substantial programme of talks from artists, specialists, and designers including the likes of Turner Prize winning artist Grayson Perry.
