The opening of this event has been postponed until early Autumn.

Somerset House is gearing up to host the Sony World Photography Awards 2020, and it's going to be quite the line-up. This is the world's largest and most diverse photography exhibition, and this year more than 600 images are set to go on display, from landscape and portraiture to fine art and photojournalism.

Typically, entrants fall into four categories – Professional, Open, Student and Youth. For 2020 there will also be an Environment category for professional photographers wanting to address humanity's impact on the natural world.

This year's Outstanding Contribution to Photography recipient is Gerhard Steidl, a designer and printer who produces covetable photography books. He will have his very own display within the exhibition, entitled One Love One Book: Steidl Book Culture. The display will be divided into for categories – artist, concept, design and print – each celebrating a crucial stage in the photo book production process.

If you love photography this is an unmissable show. All of life is here in wonderful technicolour, captured by young and old, professional and amateur from across the globe. We can't wait.
