Juergen Teller, Phillips Auction House

Jurgen Teller's bizarre series on the world's most famous couple, Kanye and Kim, comes to Phillips auction house

Phillips London Exhibition: Juergen Teller Kim Kardashian Kanye West
Controversial German photographer Juergen Teller is one of the most famous fashion photographers in the world. Fitting, then, that he chose as his subjects the most famous couple in the world, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, for a bizarre, much-publicised photoshoot.

The pictures showed Kardashian, West and Teller himself frolicking in the French countryside. We see peroxide Kim, splayed on a pile of sand, dressed in a flesh-coloured bodysuit and golden bra. Teller marching through a river in tiny shorts, Kanye relaxing against a tree, offering up his best Thug Lyf pose.

But, why?

Juergen Teller London Exhibition
The pictures were part of a series by Teller, Kanye, Juergen and Kim, and if you'd like to, you can head down to Phillips Auction House, where the series is one of three Teller projects to be exhibited. They show Teller climbing mounds of rubble with hiking sticks and braving a small stream. The images of Kim and Kanye are posed and cold-faced, as though these are bizarre, well-groomed locals Teller has found on his travels.

Also on show will be My man crush, in which Teller follows Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola around, taking pictures of the football boss at work. Look out for The Clinic, too, which is a series by Teller documenting his time in an Austrian detox centre, coming to terms with past darknesses, such as his father's suicide. All are candid snapshots, pinned frameless and in small sizes to the wall of the Phillips Auction House.

Juergen Teller: Style
If these three projects sound esoteric, they're typical of Teller, whose raw, exposed images have always been a touch on the extreme side. He photographed a 68 year old Vivienne Westwood naked on a couch, with her legs spread, Victoria Beckham in a shopping bag, a rough Kate Moss cover-shoot in 2010. He strips down his subjects, attacking them with his flash, flattening their defences.

Don't miss this buzzy, weird exhibition.
