London's largest space dedicated to contemporary photography is set to open in November 2018. The new London hub of Fotografiska, Stockholm’s mammoth Museum of Photography, will inhabit a whopping 89,000 cool square-foot space in the new Whitechapel Building, designed by Fletcher Priest architects, in East London.

As well as an enormously fine exhibition space, Fotografiska London will boast a cinema, two restaurants, a cafe and a bar. According to Fotografiska London's chairman Tommy Rönngren, the new London premise aims to 'fully integrate itself into the social, cultural and culinary fabric of this great city'.

The Swedish-based gallery, known world-wide as being the 'finest space to view and exhibit photography', has recently hosted sell-out exhibitions with international names from Vogue’s Guy Bourdin, fashion powerhouse Sarah Moon, and acclaimed fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz.

With photography's growing popularity, there couldn't be a better time for London to honour the art form and the medium's power to 'evoke emotion, inspire ideas and serve as a vehicle for self-expression', Jan Broman, CEO of the international organisation, has said.

The stylish dining at Fotografiska, Sweden, was recently named the best restaurant in Stockholm by Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter

For those weary of dusty, dim art spaces, rest assured; a cold empty monolith Fotografiska is not. Plans to echo Stockholm’s year-round program of photography courses, social events, and commercial activities – attracting 550,000 visitors annually – promises to place Fotografiska firmly at the bustling centre of London’s ever-growing, ever-influential art scene.
