London's art lovers are spoilt for choice during the first weeks of October with the slew of exhibitions, events and art fairs popping up all over the city. If you're having trouble deciding where to begin when it comes to soaking up this rich autumnal offering, then why not start with the art of our fair isle.

The British Art Fair is the only fair exclusively dedicated to Modern British art and allows visitors to peruse an impressive survey of the most prominent names to come out of the UK in the last century. See works by the greats of the 20th and 21st century such as the Lancashire-born visionary L.S. Lowry, the inimitable Yorkshire superstar David Hockney, Modernist sculptors Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore as well as contemporary giants Bridget Riley and Grayson Perry.

The fair returns for the second year in a row to the Saatchi gallery and will also stage three special exhibitions which further put the major movements and luminaries of the last 100 years under the spotlight. David Inshaw, known for his mysterious yet distinctly British landscapes, will showcase works at an eponymously-named exhibition curated by art critic Andrew Lambirth. A major retrospective displaying the eclectic oeuvre of late Scottish artist Alan Davie will also take over an entire floor and Karsten Schubert (1961-2019), the late gallerist who played a key role in promoting the Young British Artist group, is remembered in the exhibition YBAS, curated by Gavin Turk.

Whether you're looking to add some British jewels to your art collection or simply browse, the fair will no doubt offer a thorough schooling of the key figures of Modern British art and is a welcome addition to the scene during a week when all eyes are on the capital.
