The Trip to Spain, Sky Atlantic

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are back as the sparring midlife duo seeking cultural self-improvement and one-upmanship, this time in Spain

The Trip to Spain, Sky Atlantic
Sadly it's no longer on terrestrial TV, but, whatever the broadcast medium, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are back for another installment of their hit bitter-sweet travelogue, this time in Spain.

On the face of it, this new journey is all about the search for Spanish culture, cuisine and the perfect Mick Jagger impersonation, but in reality Brydon is seen desperately trying to escape his mundane domestic life whilst Coogan is, allegedly, on a mission to improve his literary knowledge.

The Trip
is often described as the comedy couple's best work, and, naturally, the success of the show lies firmly with the undoubted comedic, mimicking skill of the starring duo (although Spain looks set to make an especially lovely, show-stealing backdrop, perhaps topping even that of the Lake District and the Italian coast of earlier incarnations). Coogan is self-congratulory and pompous, but, as ever, fails to hide his insecurity and desperation in the search for yet more adulation and approval. Brydon remains a reliably limp people-pleaser.

Where The Trip to Spain is a Sky Atlantic airing, The Trip to Italy was a BBC show, and you can catch up on clips from the last series here.
