Robert Pattinson, Ben Mendelsohn and Lily-Rose Depp star in The King, a Netflix re-make of Henry V and VI

A glittering Hollywood A-list cast, including Robert Pattinson, Ben Mendelsohn and Lily-Rose Depp, starts filming on a new Netflix show The King this month.

Based on Shakespeare’s Henry the IV and V, the show tracks the story of the rebellious and disgraced Prince Hal as he inherits the crown and is guided (or misguided) through his reign by his bilious, drunken friend Flastaff.

Stepping into Falstaff's revolting shoes is Joel Edgerton, also a writer on the series. He is joined by Mendelsohn as King Henry IV alongside Pattinson as The Dauphin and Depp as Princess Catherine. Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird) is Prince Hal, and the film is being directed by David Michod (Animal Kingdom) – who also helped Edgerton write the screenplay.

The film starts shooting June 1 in the UK. Netflix will release the film in 2019.
